Dean Agriculture

Professor Rout joined OUAT service as Research Assistant in All India Coordinated Long Term Fertiliser Experiment Project in 1987 and then Asst Professor in the Department of Soil Science and Agril. Chemistry in1988, subsequently, was elevated to the post of Associate Professor on 31.12.1999 and Professor on 31.12. 2007. He has shown his excellence in teaching of UG, PG and PhD courses through out his career. As a teacher he has taken many initiatives for student counseling and placement and mentoring of students for facing competitive examinations. He was Placement In-charge of College of Agriculture for 5years.

He has also shown excellence in research. He has successfully handled/associated with 17 number of national and international Research projects such as AICRP on LTFE, AICRP on Water Management, NATP on Assessment of Soil Quality, ICAR funded Niche Area of Excellence on Acid Soil Management, Use of Fly Ash in Agriculture, Effect of Phospho gypsum Crop Productivity, Use Rock Phosphate in Acid soils, International rice Research Institute(IRRI) funded project on Optimization of Potassium Supply and Plant nutrition in Rice , BPCL funded Project on Bio Fuel, Tata Trusts Funded Project on Nutrient management in SRI method of Rice, World Bank funded project REWARD as the Nodal Officer and others. He has published more than 75 numbers of peer reviewed research publications in high rated national and international journals, 5 books, many book chapters and popular articles. He has got many awards for best presentation of research works at national level. He has guided 20 M. Sc.(Ag.) and 5 Ph.D. students and was the member in advisory committees of many students. He has shown his leadership in both teaching and research in the area of Soil fertility and soil health management In extension front, he has very often acted as resource person for imparting training to farmers and the Govt. officials of the line departments. He has delivered many advisories on soil fertility management in Door Darshan and All India Radio.

Dr. Rout has been the member of many important committees of the State Govt., ICAR Institutes and several Universities. He was member of ICAR-Peer Review Team(PRT) for accreditation of four number of State Agricultural Universities(SAU)s; member of Management Committees and Governing Council of different ICAR Institutes and other Organisations. He has life long affiliation to many Professional Societies. He was the Councillor for Indian Society of Soil Science(ISSS), and Indian Society of Water Management( ISWM). He has been the external examiner/subject expert/question setter for different National Level Institutes/State Agril Universities(SAUs) including the Agricultural Services Recruitment Board(ASRB) of ICAR.

At OUAT,he has successfully carried out many higher administrative responsibilities as Chief Scientist, AICRP on Water Managemnt, Associate Director of Research(ADR), RRTTS, Chiplima, Director Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation(DPME), the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture for 4 years and in-charge of Dean, College of Forestry for two and half years. He has served OUAT for 34 years. He has significantly contributed to the overall development of the University and the State. He was the Applied Research Advisor of OUAT and he is also instrumental in updating the long pending UG Semester Regulation. He has acted as Chairman of many important committees of the University and Govt of Odisha. He has also played a key role for infrastructure development of both College of Agriculture and College of Forestry. His contribution to teaching, research and administration is commendable. After retirement he has joined as Dean, School of Agriculture, DRIEMS, Cuttack
